Does this issue reproduce with the latest release?

Yes

What operating system and processor architecture are you using (go env)?

What did you do?

package main

import (
	"fmt"
	"regexp"
)

func main() {
	input := "carbon"
	re := regexp.MustCompile(`^car|train$`)

	isMatch := re.MatchString(input)
	match := re.FindString(input)

	fmt.Println("Matches?", isMatch)
	fmt.Println("Match:", match)
}

https://go.dev/play/p/9NhCzJXUz42

What did you expect to see?

It sould not match because this have a caret and a dollar sign, meaning that it should expect it to be an exact match.

Matches? false
Match:

What did you see instead?

Matches? true
Match: car

My bad: I should use ^(car|train)$ instead
