@liggitt requested issue #53989 to be considered for backport to the next 1.19 minor release.

@gopherbot please consider this for backport to 1.19, it's a regression.

thanks for the quick fix on master! not sure what needs to happen to get it into 1.19, I saw there were merge conflicts when I tried to cherry-pick it to the 1.19 release branch, which I didn't dig into further

We will merge the master branch to the 1.19 release branch before the final release. So nothing needs to be done.

A merge conflict would be weird, though. I see nothing on the 1.19 branch since the last merge.
