@ianlancetaylor requested issue #52856 to be considered for backport to the next 1.18 minor release.

@gopherbot Please open a backport for 1.18.

This should be fixed in a 1.18 minor release. The bug does not exist in earlier releases.

In issue #52856 it was determined that the current 1.18 behavior is correct, so no fix needs to be backported to 1.18.
