One of the points of using tabs is that any editor that should even remotely be considered useful for editing code lets you set how wide the tabs are. A lot of them default to 8, but if you don't like that just change it. |

It's not even February 1st yet. April is over two months away. But to be serious, this isn't going to happen. If we changed the gofmt default every time somebody filed a bug about their personal preference we'd always be changing it. Like @DeedleFake says, a tab is semantically meaningful and you can configure your editor to render them how you'd like. |

I understand this have been set in stone since the beginning and could be personal preference but we could probably discuss 3-space code indentation for Go 2.
2 space is too narrow.
3 space feel balanced for Go syntax and on small-screen devices
4 space does look slightly off.
Tab (8 space) is too wide and as have bad eyes vision that prefer less space.
