I understand this have been set in stone since the beginning and could be personal preference but we could probably discuss 3-space code indentation for Go 2.
2 space is too narrow.
3 space feel balanced for Go syntax and on small-screen devices
4 space does look slightly off.
Tab (8 space) is too wide and as have bad eyes vision that prefer less space.

One of the points of using tabs is that any editor that should even remotely be considered useful for editing code lets you set how wide the tabs are. A lot of them default to 8, but if you don't like that just change it.
It's not even February 1st yet. April is over two months away.
But to be serious, this isn't going to happen. If we changed the gofmt default every time somebody filed a bug about their personal preference we'd always be changing it. Like @DeedleFake says, a tab is semantically meaningful and you can configure your editor to render them how you'd like.
